Fall is here, which means that—just like the changing and falling leaves—burnt orange, yellow, brown, and other natural colors are in.

The best way to decorate the inside and outside of your home this season is with pumpkins—perhaps in ways you hadn’t considered before.

Troy Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing has some ideas to take pumpkin decorating to the next level for fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.

  1. Paint Those Pumpkins

Place pumpkins over some newspaper or a drop cloth and pour some acrylic paint on the stem. The way it will drip down the sides will create some unique art and fun color combinations.

  1. Fall Foliage Garlands

Don’t wait until the Christmas holiday season to break out the garland. Use a combination of leaves and pumpkin decorations to create a garland to go over the fireplace, a doorway, or around a staircase banister.

  1. Different Kind of Jack-O’-Lantern

Instead of carving a face into a pumpkin to light it up, use smaller squash and scoop out some of the top. Then place a tea light inside to make natural candle holders.

  1. Create a Natural Planter

Using the same concept as above but with larger pumpkins, take the top and inside out to use as a planter or vase. For less mess, make enough room to put the entire plant with the pot inside the pumpkin.

  1. Add Dried Flowers to the Mix

Using a hot glue gun, dry some flowers with complementary colors and glue them to the gourds, creating potential centerpieces for your fall gatherings.

  1. A Festive Wreath

Again, it doesn’t have to be December to put a wreath on your front door. Your favorite craft store likely has an assortment of fall-foliage wreaths, or you can craft your own.
