It’s been said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it’s true that it can set the tone for a good day or leave you sluggish and unable to get in a good groove for the rest of the day.

That all depends on what you have for breakfast. Options high in fiber and protein will give your body natural energy, while consuming too many empty carbs might provide a temporary boost in energy, you’re going to be sapped of strength well before lunchtime.

Troy Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing has five delicious low-carb, high-fiber breakfast options to get your day off to a great start.

  • Omelets

Skip the bread on your breakfast sandwich and have an omelet instead. The eggs will provide the necessary protein and pack it with veggies to get other needed nutrients early in the day.

  • Overnight Oats With Berries and Cream

Leave some oatmeal and berries in the fridge overnight so you can grab-and-go in the morning. You can also add chopped walnuts and chia seeds for some omega-3 fatty acids. Let it soak in coconut or almond milk.

  • Breakfast Salad With Eggs

There’s nothing wrong with some greens for breakfast! Use hearty greens and add snap peas, radishes, and cucumbers—along with walnuts and a sliced hard-boiled egg for some added healthy fat and protein. Use a light Italian or lemon vinaigrette as dressing

  • Veggie Casserole

A veggie casserole—or a frittata—are great options to cook once and serve many. Use an egg base and throw in whichever veggies that you like.

  • Dressed up Avocado

Avocados are one of the best high-fat foods out there and will provide you with plenty of energy for the entire morning. Cut it in half, drizzle olive oil, add some lemon zest, and top it off with everything bagel seasoning for a surprisingly delicious dish.
